Wet Canvas 4 - Doin' Alright
40' x 30'
This shot I’ve been sitting on for about 7 years not knowing really how to get the absolute
best from it. Took it at a rodeo in Southern California with a big lens I hired for a day to
mount on my Canon-a 400mm 2.8 I recall. Certainly did the job.
My recent tangent into what I
would term as ‘minimalist’
painting fitted this buck jumper
down to a tee. The problem with
some subjects is that they are
complete in themselves to the
extent that any support is an
unwanted complication. The only
support this action needed was
the explosion of dirt engulfing
the hindquarters as energy was
sent skyward through the upward
leg action of the angry horse.
Forward of the head I left a
passive and restful area to
accentuate
the posture of the downward bent
head and forward thrusting legs.
The upper region shifts from
warm to cool while the base is a
non descript dark.
This painting I will print as a
giclee. It is all drama and
balance in fact it could well be
one
of those motivational pictures
that are on display in offices
these days. What would I call
it?
‘Tenacity’, I reckon would be
pretty appropriate.
