Wet Canvas
Wet Canvas 5 - Under Control -
Just
While I was in the mood I ripped into another one I had been sitting on for the same number of
years. Although these are relatively simple in composition they are testing in another way.
How do I simplify it such that it projects action and drama in a pure sense?

Wet Canvas 4 - Doin' Alright
This shot I’ve been sitting on for about 7 years not knowing really how to get the absolute
best from it. I took it at a rodeo in Southern California with a big lens I hired for a day to
mount on my Canon-a 400mm 2.8 I recall. Certainly did the job.

Wet Canvas 3 - Cowboys
Bulldogging A Steer
Now jumped into a new painting
of a couple of cowboys
bulldogging a young steer. I got
this great action shot at a
rodeo at Lakeside a couple of
years back as I was drifting
around south west USA. These
guys really do know their stuff
and show little fear and a whole
lot of grit. That’s the
challenge in this one so we’ll
see how it goes.

Wet Canvas 2 - The Right Moment
and The Shooter
The two western paintings below
are drying. They are a
continuation of the previous
week’s approach of drama through
background manipulation ‘The
Right Moment’ is another effort.
It is big bold and powerful and
will look great in the right
house with the right light-even
though I might like to keep it
myself.

Wet Canvas 1 - Creating Anchors
Out
As
an artist who paints every day there is always the
possibility of slipping into a rut. I don't because
every day offers a new opportunity to discover new
effects and different ways of energizing a painting.
The one thing that keeps me at the coalface is the
unexpected jumping up and grabbing me by the throat.
About 2 weeks back I thought I would sidestep the
background in a cowboy painting to accentuate the drama.
