Paintings In The Portraiture Gallery
As the great Russian artist
Il’ya Repin said, ‘If you can’t
paint a portrait you can’t paint
at all’! People are what life is
all about. As we move through
life we experience and interact
with people at all levels of our
consciousness. As artists we are
rarely challenged to formalize
that in a sketch or a painting.
‘Whenever we are, we are forced
to look, not just see’ says
Hagan. He continues ‘this
discipline is the hardest of all
in its exactness and demands and
will drive you mad if that is
all you have to do’. For this
artist however to wander into
portraiture is a welcomed
digression.

The oil paintings in this
portraiture art gallery were
all painted on canvas by the
Australian artist
Robert Hagan. These oil paintings
are portraits of young women in
Hagan's life. Hagan rarely
paints portrait's and usually
only if commissioned. His
portraits show his tightness in
style and technique.
